WWE Smackdown – 16th January: Jeff Hardy on the Cutting Edge

J.R. and The Tazz tell us tonight, we’ll see the ‘Cutting Edge’ and Jeff Hardy will be the guest.

Vickie welcomed us to her show, Smackdown! She showed us what happens when someone crosses her. They played clips of Triple H’s three matches last week. Vickie listed off what Hunter has done to her, you know, things like ruining her wedding, marriage and reputation.

HHH came out with a package. As a way of saying sorry, he’s got her nude photos. He had to pay BIG money to Joey Styles for them. He apologised about some of them sticking together.

Vickie told HHH that tonight, he was fighting for his place in the Rumble in a last man standing match against the Big Show. As Vickie was leaving, Triple H put her “nudes” on the big screen; they showed up while animal noises and shit played. This poor woman. I do love how when she reeks out “EXCUSE ME!” the entire building boos loudly. She said Triple H wasn’t facing Show for his rumble match, but MVP will fight for it for Huntor, and HHH is banned from ringside!

There was a Jack Swagger ECW title win video. Awesome!

Jack Swagger & Mark Henry vs. Finlay & Matt Hardy

Decent match with Hardy pinning Swagger. The finish with everyone coming in and getting hit with a move is over-done in wrestling, but it’s still good, and it was no different here.

Big Show came in Vickie’s office and said she made a great move in booking the last man standing match. Show said he’d love for Edge to win the title because, after he (Big Show) wins the Rumble, he wants to knock Edge out. Chavo pissed off Edge by being a geek, so Edge told him to fuck off and check if everything is ok for the ‘Cutting Edge’.

Kendrick and Zeke intimidate R-Truth.

Michelle was cutting a horribly forced heel promo when Victoria cut her off and got all up in her face!

Triple H told MVP he better man up tonight – MVP said tonight the losing streak ends.

R-Truth vs. The Brian Kendrick

This was your basic R-Truth match that he’s had since debuting. Truth got the pin with his scissors kick. Post-match, Zeke attacked Truth.

Triple H was still backstage telling MVP to man up.

Last Man Standing Match: MVP vs. Big Show

MVP came from behind while Show was making his entrance and attacked Show with a chair. He tried to keep up the offence, but Show cut him off and then  dominated him. Up on the ramp, Show went to chokeslam MVP, but HHH came out and smashed Show in the back with the sledgehammer. MVP got to his feet at 9 and won for the first time in like 3 months!

A video of Umaga’s impending return played – I’m guessing the Royal Rumble.

In a wacky and weird video promo, Undertaker basically said he’ll win the Royal Rumble.

Victoria vs. Michelle McCool

I thought this was a fine divas match. McCool got the win with the Styles Clash. The announcers kept telling us that this is Victoria’s last match as she is retiring, yet, they didn’t even show her speech after the match. Harsh.

Vickie was laughing at Triple H and told him he was out of the Rumble because he got involved in the match. HHH told her that she said ‘ringside’ and he was nowhere near the ring. She then booked Kozlov vs. HHH for next week. Thanks, Vickie.

The awesome, awesome, awesome Austin Hall of Fame video played.

After a brief Kozlov promo saying he’ll beat HHH, Edge was in the ring for the Cutting Edge. Edge said he had to worry about Hardy even making it to the Rumble; he can’t even enjoy some good old Jeff Hardy pain right now.

Edge played a video he “put together” telling us he’ll beat Jeff.  Jeff came out, but his pyro exploded into his face.  As Hardy sold this, his music stopped and the announcers went silent. Wang, Helms, Truth and Matt Hardy rushed out along with EMTs. Vickie and Edge stood on the stage concerned for Jeff as we went off the air. Great angle.
