Ahead of tonight’s WWE Royal Rumble 2010 pay-per-view, we take a look back at last year’s Royal Rumble.

WWE Royal Rumble 2009

A really cool opening video played. It featured the “voices” song that is Orton’s theme with Orton punting Vince in the head.

Cole and Lawler say the McMahon family are keeping the condition of Vince private, and that Orton will be punished.

ECW Championship: Matt Hardy vs. Jack Swagger

Hardy has had Swagger’s number early on in the match. Swagger shoved Hardy off the top and worked away on Hardy. Hardy went for the side effect, but Swagger rammed him into the post and gave him the gutwrench for the victory. Good match.

They spent a long time showing Matt Hardy looking totally dejected and upset. Yup, the rumour that he is the attacker has to be true.

Women’s Championship: Beth Phoenix vs. Melina

There was a big Santino chant. Awesome. Beth used Melina’s own foot to hit Melina over the head. Melina rolled through on a slam attempt and got the 3 count. Melina is the new Women’s Champion.

JBL said if Shawn helps him win the title tonight, not only will this be over and he’ll be set for life, but he’ll get him a shot in the Royal Rumble. After JBL left the room, Undertaker appeared and said, “Sometimes, it’s hell getting to heaven.”

World Heavyweight Championship: John Cena vs. JBL

It’s been pretty much all Cena early on. Cena ducked a JBL clothesline on the outside, but ran into Michaels, they faced-off which gave JBL the advantage. JBL beat on Cena for a long time. Cena finally got back into the match and had JBL in the STF, Michaels’ teased pushing the rope for JBL to get it.

JBL hit the clothesline from hell, but Cena kicked out. JBL got out of the FU and ended up kicking the ref in the head.

HBK came into the ring – he didn’t know who to kick. He ended up kicking JBL in the head and the crowd popped. He kicked Cena, too! He dragged JBL on top of Cena and walked off.

Another ref ran down, but CENA KICKED OUT! JBL was getting ready to give Cena another clothesline from hell, but Cena caught him in the FU and got the victory.

WWE Championship: Jeff Hardy vs. Edge

Vickie came out after Jeff and said the match is now a no-dq match.

I could have sworn I heard a “We want Christian” chant. Haha. Ain’t happening.

They were having a somewhat decent match until Jeff tried to put Edge through a table. He had a ladder out and everything. Chavo distracted him, but he, Chavo Guerrero, ended up on the table. Jeff nearly slipped off the ladder when diving on Chavo.

Jeff hit the Swanton on Edge, but Vickie pulled the ref out. Matt came out with a chair. He teased doing the chair thing with Jeff, but ended up hitting Jeff. No Christian return then. Edge rolled over and got the win – becoming the new WWE champion.

Orton was interviewed. He doesn’t know if there will be legal action, and he thinks he is in the Rumble still.

ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH

#1 – Rey Mysterio

#2 -John Morrison

Jerry Lawler and Jim Ross are doing the Rumble this year.

Morrison and Rey were nearly dumped onto the outside.

#3 – Carlito

#4 – MVP

#5 – The Great Khali

#6 – Vladimir Kozlov

Kozlov threw out Khali – by himself. He also dumped out MVP. Carlito was next.

#7 – Triple H

Of course, as you’d think, HHH threw over Kozlov.

#8 – Randy Orton

#9 – Cryme Tyme. They flipped a coin, it was double-sided. JTG came in.

#10 – Ted Dibiase!

#11 – Chris Jericho

#12 – Mike Knox

#13 – The Miz

Orton was RKOin’ everyone. HHH threw over both Miz and Morrison.

#14 – Finlay

#15 – Cody Rhodes

Rey flew right into a RKO. AWESOME.

#16 – Undertaker

‘Taker dumped out JTG.

#17 – Goldust

Cody threw out Goldust on the instructions of Orton.

#18 – CM Punk

#19 – Mark Henry

#20 – Shelton Benjamin

#21 – William Regal

Mark Henry got thrown out, but I have no idea by who.

#22 – Kofi Kingston

Undertaker dumped out Shelton.

#23 – Kane

Regal was outed by Punk

#24 – R-Truth

#25 – RVD

#26 – Brian Kendrick

Kendrick pushed Kofi out. HHH quickly threw out Kendrick, though.

#27 – Dolph Ziggler

Kane dragged Dolph’s ass over the top.

#28 – Santino

He ran in and came right out.

#29 – Hacksaw Jim Duggan

#30 – Big Show

Show dumped out Duggan after Duggan tried to throw out Show.

R-Truth was thrown out by Show, too. Punk kept staying in, but Show knocked him out.

Rey and Knox were both out.

Finlay was outed by Kane.

RVD frogsplashed someone, but Jericho dumped him out. Jericho went out after ‘Taker side-stepped him.

Legacy elimination Kane.

Show and Undertaker were on the apron. Show was RKO’d off, and he then pulled ‘Taker out. They brawled through the crowd.

Just the Legacy vs. HHH now.

HHH sent Ted and Cody packing. But from behind ORTON DUMPED OUT HHH.

RANDY ORTON WINS THE ROYAL RUMBLE.
