Los Angeles police said Thursday they have a suspect in custody on suspicion of vandalizing Donald Trump's Hollywood Walk of Fame star with a sledgehammer and a pick ax.
A man takes a photo of the vandalized star for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2016, in Los Angeles. Det.
The videotape prompted headlines on conservative news sites, such as Breitbart News, and several calls to police asking why they did not intervene. Meghan Aguilar said investigators were called to the s. LAPD Officer Tony Im said Friday that police would write up a misdemeanor battery report on behalf of the woman, using the video and information they obtained from her at another confrontation in Hollywood on Wednesday.
City News reported the man said he had family members who were victims of sexual assault and had meant to remove the star, which he was unable to do, and auction it off to benefit women who have alleged Trump groped them. He added, "If she's a victim, she has a right to come forward".
"Alright, guys, we are all very upset about Trump, what he said, what he's done to our country, but yelling at this woman will not save the situation", he said.
"Mr. Trump cares about not only finding her but he wants us to do something special for her", Trump attorney Michael Cohen told The Daily Caller Saturday.
A crowd on Hollywood Boulevard, not a hotspot for Trump supporters, did not share the woman's political preferences.
A Deadline video shows Otis dressed as a construction worker in an orange vest and work boots removing pieces of the star located at 6801 Hollywood Blvd.
Otis told Deadline Hollywood after Wednesday's pre-dawn attack that he originally meant to remove the star.
James Otis was taken into custody on Thursday and released in the afternoon on 20,000 USA dollars bail.
James Otis, 52, says he did it to stand for the women accusing the candidate of sexual assault.
