Falling gas prices may end soon

Gwinnett residents may see average gas prices almost 20 cents cheaper than the national average of $2.279 for a gallon of regular unleaded, according to AAA.
Most Jacksonville stations were at $1.99 a gallon Monday. The EIA forecasts gas prices to average $2.39 per gallon in 2017 and $2.44 in 2018. It said the national average is 57 cents a gallon higher than previous year but 7 cents a gallon lower than last month.
The highest price in Valdosta Sunday was $2.64 at a North Patterson Street business, according to gasbuddy.
"Refineries that produce California gasoline are scheduling their routine maintenance at this time of year, which can reduce supply and increase prices", said Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager. It was the fifth consecutive week that Marquette had the highest average price in the state.
US markets in the south and southeast, including Texas, continue to post some of the lowest prices for retail gasoline in the nation.
AAA reports the most expensive gas is sold in the City of Chicago, at $2.76 per gallon. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) decided in November 2016 to cut production of oil by 1.2 million barrels a day for six months.
Carrasco said the Energy Information Administration shows weekly gas demand in January was down 6 percent compared to January 2016 and that the agency is forecasting a national average of $2.39 in 2017.
