Dustin Johnson is facing a trio of major champions in his group at the Dell Technologies Match Play. He brought her to OH in the last month for more tests, hopeful that surgery would lead to a chance for a recovery. "The prognosis is much better being over here".
"It's really hard to even comprehend being on the golf course right now", Jason Day said.
"My mum has lung cancer and at the start of the year in Australia she was diagnosed with 12 months to live", Day said, struggling to get out the words as he cried.
"I'm glad I brought her over here because of it".
The 29-year-old Australian has started the 2017 US PGA Tour season behind the eight ball after spending the last three months of 2016 on the sidelines nursing a lower back injury. "It's been very very emotional as you can tell", added Day, whose father Alvin died of cancer in 1999 when the golfer was 11. "My mom says not to let it get to me, but it really has so I just need some time away to make sure everything goes well".
Last season Jason Day played superbly to see off Louis Oosthuizen in the final, Day is 16/1 this week while Oosthuizen is 50/1 to go one step better than last season. Emotionally it's been wearing on me for a while.
Snedeker was having three replacement putters shipped to Austin Country Club in time for his Day 2 match, but he said he was going to try to have his trusted "gamer" fixed in time for his bout against Andy Sullivan on Thursday.
Day lives near Columbus, Ohio, where he met his wife when he was on the Nationwide Tour as a teenager trying to get his PGA Tour card. I think Reed will rise to the occasion this week and could lead you to a big payday.
Day spoke to the media before leaving to avoid any speculation about his own health. Kuchar captured five straight matches en route to the final, including an early 2-and-1 victory over Garcia and a 4-and-3 semifinal victory over Day, who has gone on to win the tournament twice in the last three years. A year ago, he was undefeated in group play, but lost in the round of 16. The surgery is scheduled for Friday. He had missed the cut in his previous tournament, the Farmers Insurance Open, and ended up in a tie for 23rd in the Arnold Palmer Invitational last weekend.
"You're playing against one guy; you're not worrying about anyone else and can't mentally switch off in situations like match play".
