The average Major League Baseball player will make over $4 million this season and nobody will make more than Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw who will make $33 million as part of his seven-year, $215 million contract.
That would be historic - but maybe not out of the realm of possibility if they kept playing the Padres. Maeda struck out five and walked one on 60 pitches. "Everyone raked. Anyone at any time can hurt you". August appears to be the easiest month of the season since the only potential playoff teams the Dodgers face are the Mets, Tigers, and Pirates. (Although, since it's an even year should we just count them out already?) The Rockies are one of the most buzzed about up-and-coming teams in baseball, a team that finally has the pitching to hang with the big bats of Blake Street.
Opening Day is a phenomenal time for baseball fans - every team is optimistic, the crack of the bat and the smell of grass shavings signify that its time to get those beach bodies ready and baseball caps on.
Moon played for the Dodgers from 1959-65 and is best remembered for his penchant for hitting home runs, dubbed "Moon shots" over the 42-foot screen in left field at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, where the team played through 1961. The next five, however, reached base and scored.
He improved to 5-0 in seven straight Opening Day starts. A double by Justin Turner, an intentional walk and a hit batter loaded the bases for Pederson who ripped a 3-and-1 pitch from Chacin on a line into the right field seats just inside the foul pole. Both came with two outs and gave the Dodgers a 6-1 lead. Seager added his three-run homer in the fifth inning and Grandal (starting on an opening day for the first time in his career) went deep again in the eighth, this time batting right-handed.
Angels: Made their final two cuts after the game, designating relievers Kirby Yates and Austin Adams for assignment.
Auto and stadium gates will open at 10 a.m., with Dodger Stadium Express shuttle bus service from Union Station starting at 10:10 a.m., officials said. I was just 16 when the Dodgers got carved up by Cardinals pitcher Michael Wacha in the 2013 NLCS - St. Louis topped the Dodgers in the 2013 NLCS and 2014 NLDS.
We've made it to Opening Day!
I was also in the stands in 2009 when the "O-Dog", Orlando Hudson, legged out a triple to complete the cycle, only the second in the history of Dodger Stadium and the first Dodger to do so in 39 years. "It means you care about what you do".
The last time Kershaw was not the Opening Day starter was 2010 when the eminently forgettable Vicente Padilla received the assignment from manager Joe Torre.
"It's a huge honor to do it. To be mentioned with some of those guys like him (Drysdale) or Sandy (Koufax) or Fernando (Valenzuela), it's pretty special".
