Cavaliers take control early and hold off Pacers for 2-0 lead

CLEVELAND (AP) - Blown big leads.

Kyrie Irving recorded 37 points, with 27 from Kevin Love, as the Cavs moved 2-0 up in the best-of-seven series.

Game 3 is Thursday night at Indianapolis.

"We're right there of what we know can become", James said.

From there, the Cavs benefited from two crucial calls, as Myles Turner was whistled while going for the inbound against Love and Iman Shumpert flopped into next week against C.J. It was the first time in Cleveland history that three players scored at least 25 points in a postseason game.

The Pacers were led by, forward, Paul George with 32 points and 8 rebounds.

The Cavaliers took a 2-0 lead in the First Round of the NBA Playoffs after a 117-111 victory over the Indiana Pacers.

"(George) had 18 the first half", Lue said. "It's our offense. I think we get exhausted at times". It's playoffs, guys are playing a lot of minutes and they're competing.

"We all know that Lance is an emotional guy. We understand that, but we've got to be smart also". If the Pacers can avoid the mistakes that put them behind the eight-ball in the final minutes, they may just have a chance.

"We're extremely frustrated", said Thaddeus Young. It's hard to come off the bench right after halftime. Unfortunately, Turner's play has been a constant struggle for much longer than just this series, but has mostly devolved into him getting outworked in the post by Tristan Thompson, scoring just six points on 3-10 shooting.

The Pacers lost in the final seconds at Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday, and are looking to bounce back in Game 2 on Monday night. After the game, Paul George was asked about it, and said Stephenson needs to channel those emotions. "But we found a way to pull the game out, and we'll be better". "We're right there of what we know we can become, and we'll figure it out". Even when we're down big. James (357) also jumped Magic Johnson (358) for third place in career playoff steals and hopped Robert Parish for eighth in rebounds. It's the first time in his National Basketball Association career (regular and postseason) that James has recorded at least four steals and four blocks in a game.

LeBron James says the defending-champion Cavs are on the brink of putting it all together. Sure, he played out of his mind (25 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals, 4 blocks) but that doesn't mean Coach Lue shouldn't let him sit. Only Jerry West (14) and Michael Jordan (15) had more. Love scored time and time again, with Stephenson picking up three fouls and at one point slamming the ball to the floor in frustration following a whistle against him. "We were moving, we were flying around and we were communicating on coverages and allowed us to have that third". He's been Indiana's best player in both losses against the Cavs, going for an almost identical line in Game 1 in a nearly indistinguishable loss.

This time it was Lance Stephenson, who suffered mightily on the defensive end when coach Nate McMillan matched him up with Kevin Love. He was a free agent after being released by the New Orleans Pelicans, who needed his roster spot because he was injured. Even though the veteran guard (who infamously once blew in LeBron's ear during a playoff game three years ago when James was with the Heat) had a stellar Game 1, Stephenson clearly grew frustrated in a key third quarter sequence against the Cavs on Monday, committing unnecessary fouls and letting Cleveland get in his head.
