New Spiderman spin-off movie will star Tom Hardy as Venom

Tom Hardy is now in final negotiations with Sony to star in their upcoming movie, Venom.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Sony had made a decision to move ahead with a solo franchise for the fan-favourite Spider-Man villain, Venom. The studio is in final negotiations with "Zombieland" director Ruben Fleischer to helm the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Tom Hardy is officially set to play Eddie Brock in the new Venom movie!

The report also makes something abundantly clear (again): This film is completely separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, meaning we shouldn't be expecting Tom Holland's Peter Parker to pop up or even be referenced in the film.

Well, it just got one step closer to reality, as Variety reports that former Bane actor (and nearly Rick Flag in Suicide Squad) Tom Hardy has signed on to play Eddie Brock in a film directed by Zombieland's Ruben Fleischer.

After the failure of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Sony turned to Marvel Studios for help in relaunching the franchise.

Tom Hardy must hate his face. In the Marvel Comics universe, Venom has appeared alongside Spider-Man, Iron Man, Deadpool, Hulk, and many other Marvel Comics characters.

Variety ran the story on Friday afternoon. production starts this fall for an October 5th, 2018 release date.

Meanwhile, Scott Rosenberg (Jumanji) and Jeff Pinkner (The Dark Tower) will write the script for Venom, and Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce the movie, along with Amy Pascal. Dubbing himself "Venom", Brock became one of Spider-Man's most murderous and unsafe arch-nemeses. Though he mainly is a villain for Spider-Man, seen in Sam Rami's 'Spider-Man 3', the character is known to also be an anti-hero.

With Venom, the actor now switches from the DC side of comic book movie dimension to the Marvel zone.
