Trump welcomes Panama President says 'Canal doing well'

Obviously, just because Trump said "we did a good job building [it]" directly to Varela doesn't mean the president actually thinks he is in any way responsible for constructing a structure overseen by President Theodore Roosevelt and completed in 1914.

Meanwhile, Trump claimed that the relationship between Panama and US has been very strong and are developing new things to do and only getting stronger.

As Trump pointed out, the US was responsible for overseeing the construction of the Panama Canal, which successfully connected the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.

POTUS and FLOTUS welcomed President Juan Carlos Varela and Mrs. Varela at the South Portico of the White House Monday morning, and the dress the first lady was wearing was simply breathtaking. We're going to spend quite a bit of time today", the president said from the Oval Office, adding, "The Panama Canal is doing quite well.

"The reality is, sadly, I don't see much difference between the Trump administration and the Obama administration", Chaffetz, the House Oversight Committee chairman, said.

PRESIDENT VARELA: Thank you, Mr. President.

During their brief discussion in front of reporters, the leaders made no mention of former Panamanian President Ricardo Martinelli, who was arrested in Coral Gables, Florida last week.

Martinelli's attorneys also said he had already left the country to seek political asylum in the United States before charges were brought by Panama.
