Disney Officially Casts Live-Action Aladdin, Jasmine & Genie

The team behind the upcoming live-action Disney project took the stage to announce three of the biggest cast members: Aladdin, Jasmine, and Genie.

Guy Ritchie is at the helm of the new adaptation, but reports suggested he was having difficulty finding stars to appear in the film.

Disney have yet to announce who'll play Jafar.

During Disney's live-action movie presentation at D23, president of production Sean Bailey revealed that Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott and Will Smith will star in Guy Ritchie's Aladdin.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Mena Massoud is a Canadian actor and now appears on the new Amazon series Jack Ryan He also starred in the TV series Open Heart and Saving Hope. It was proving more hard than the studio imagined to find actors of Middle Eastern descent. They'll be played by Mena Massoud, Naomi Scott, and Will Smith, respectively.

Naomi Scott is portraying Princess Jasmine in Disney's "Aladdin".

One star has apparently already signed on for the role of Genie, originally made famous by Robin Williams.

Though the role of the villain Jafar has not been cast, shooting for the film is set to begin in August. Will Smith had been previously announced as the Genie. And his name is Mena Massoud.

Dan Lin is producing Aladdin through his company Lin Pictures, and Jonathan Eirich has been named executive producer.
