Jaguars name Henne starting quarterback for third preseason game

Bortles has started the last 45 regular season games for the Jaguars, but a awful start to the 2017 preseason following his downturn in 2016 led Doug Marrone to bench him in favor of Chad Henne for the third preseason contest. Chad Henne will reportedly start for the Jags who take on the Carolina Panthers in their third preseason game. Bortles looked like he could become a great quarterback when he tallied 4,428 passing yards and 35 touchdowns in 2015, but he has only regressed since his excellent sophomore season.

Khan said he is open to anything that his staff suggests would make the Jaguars a better team. But Bortles has been erratic throughout training camp and even threw five interceptions during the team's first full-pads practice. "I think that one thing that I have said before - nothing is really status quo on the team, meaning you have to go out there and perform at every position, not just the quarterback position". "I'm not going to put that pressure on myself to say, 'Hey, listen, I need to do this (quickly).' I've got time". I'm just trying to figure out who is going to be that guy in that position that can lead our team. "I think that's hard on whoever's playing quarterback".

Bortles is set to make $19 million next season, and the Jaguars could be on the hook for that money if they keep him around and he gets injured. Marrone obviously isn't enthralled with him as his starter.

The situation they're in, sadly, is one in which they are the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Henne takes the starting job (as much as you can have a starting job in the preseason, at least) from Blake Bortles.

Wentz tossed touchdown passes to both of his new receivers, Mychal Kendricks returned an interception 31 yards for a score and the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Miami Dolphins 38-31 on Thursday night. The Carolina Panthers have shown great promise on the offensive side, combining for 54 points in two games, but they must get Newton in there at some point to be truly confident come regular season time. I'm not going to sit here and B.S. anyone. "So you know, it's a different perspective", Bortles said.

Henne, 32, has started 22 games (5-17) in four seasons with the Jaguars and has appeared in seven others.
