Teen detained after sliding down wing of plane onto SFO taxiway

The plane, a Boeing 737, had been waiting to taxi to its arrival gate after the seven and a half-hour flight, airport officials told NBC Bay Area.

Airport spokesman Doug Yakel says an airfield construction crew confronted the 17-year-old boy, who has been arrested and is in police custody. The teen was not injured, but was transported to a local hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

A passenger has opened an aeroplane door and jumped out prior to the plane arriving at the terminal in San Francisco. He was later transferred to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Yakel said. "And then this guy, I see him jump on the wing and then he starts climbing down the wing and then he just runs".

"We are cooperating fully with the relevant authorities to support the ongoing investigation", the airline said. "And everyone was just screaming". Though, a passenger named Isaac Rodrigues said that since there was no door to close, the flight attendant used her body to block the gap so that the plane could continue to the gate, reported AP.

There have been other similar incidents before where passengers have tried to jump off planes.

Passengers of a Copa Airlines flight say a teenage boy who opened an emergency door and jumped to a tarmac was very quick and that people sitting next to him didn't have time to stop him. The teen was a passenger on a Boeing 737 from Panama City. "So said passenger opens the over wing emergency exit and jumps out on to runway 28L".

"They were yelling, 'Tell the flight attendants".
