Pele backs Neymar's decision to leave Barcelona to join PSG

Rising star Kylian Mbappe tried to explain his big-money move to Paris Saint-Germain from Monaco on Monday after receiving fierce criticism from hardcore Monaco fans.

The 18-year-old France worldwide spoke for the first time as a PSG player since his transfer went through last week and revealed his initial intentions to remain with Monaco, as well as explaining his decision to turn down a move away from Ligue 1.

The 18-year-old striker arrived at his hometown club from Monaco on transfer deadline day on loan, though PSG have a compulsory purchase option for a figure believed to be in the region of €180 million at the end of the season.

"I will speak about it very soon and say everything that happened".

Mbappe said that at the end of last season, he had chose to stay with Monaco, "but certain events happened which made me change my mind".

"I want to do even better than last season", he said as he was presented to the media on Wednesday.

'He is an additional advantage. "It's extraordinary to play with someone of that level".

"I'm starving for trophies and I want to win year after year, starting right now".

Conversations with Unai Emery were also important in persuading Mbappe, who had also been linked with Real Madrid and Arsenal over the summer.

Praising United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward for predicting the market surge, Mourinho told The Times: "I think we were very clever".

UEFA said it would look at whether PSG had violated the financial fair play regulations "in light of its recent transfer activity".

Al-Khelaifi said: "We respect all of Federation Internationale de Football Association and Uefa's rules". "We paid everything in a transparent way and have nothing to hide".
