A federal control board overseeing Puerto Rico's finances authorized up to $1 billion in local money to be used for hurricane response, but Gov. Ricardo Rossello said he would ask for more. In fact, 3.5 million USA citizens live there. But it is important that the destruction and pain being experienced by our compatriots in Puerto Rico not be ignored or overlooked. The combined damage of both storms has left Puerto Rico devastated. There have been growing concerns for some 70,000 people who live in the river valley below the Guajataca Dam in the island's northwest, where cracks were seen on Friday in the 88-year-old earthen structure. White House officials have signaled that Trump plans to visit Puerto Rico, but an official date has yet to be announced.
