The dispute surfaced when Trump took heat for not commenting on the October 4 attack that killed four USA soldiers in Niger, and then making the false claim that previous presidents had not called families of troops killed in action.
His chatter was simply reprehensible, and typical of Trump, who seemed to double down on his mistake later by questioning whether Obama had ever called Gen. John Kelly, his chief of staff, whose son was killed in Afghanistan in 2010.
On the same day as Trump made the claims of having called almost all the families of military dead, the White House asked the Pentagon for updated information about contact information for surviving family members.
After a reporter challenged Donald Trump on the statement, the president admitted that he did not know much on the matter. She doesn't remember how long they spoke. Chereisa Booker, of Schertz, Texas, said Trump had taken office by the time a condolence letter was processed and she and her husband received the letter.
To date, Donald Trump has still issued no official statement on the USA soldiers killed in Niger, either formally or on his Twitter page.
Meanwhile, Natasha De Alencar told the Post she and her children all sat around the phone when Trump called, with one filming the conversation.
Trump: Are your other kids, are your other kids all outstanding, or do you have some good and some not quite as good?
"I'll never forget those super-white, clean gloves, or the expressionless look on their faces", she previously told The Washington Post.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But with Trump, they end up wishing they'd let the call go to voicemail.
Over the course of the roughly four-minute call, Trump can be heard empathetically consoling the Gold Star widow, repeatedly reiterating his "respect" for the fallen Staff Sgt. calling him an "amazing husband" and an "amazing solider".
After Army Sgt. Jonathon M. Hunter died in a suicide bombing attack in Afghanistan in August, his family was told to expect a call from Trump.
"The White House ensured that the President had contacted all families of soldiers killed in action that had been presented to him through existing protocols", a White House spokesman told Roll Call on Friday.
De Alencar: Yes, sir, he's a cornerback.
The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
Sanders said the president "offered condolences on behalf of a grateful nation and assured them their family's extraordinary sacrifice to the country will never be forgotten". "I am a better mother and woman because of him". He left a "really nice" phone message with his cellphone number in case she needed anything, she said. "They said we could order more copies of it if we wanted", she said. Kimball lives in Fort Benning, Georgia, and her son grew up in Cleveland, Texas.
