Two dead in shooting at Grambling State

The two young men killed in the incident were identified as GSU senior Earl Andrews and Monquiarious Caldwell, who was not a student at the school.

"Grambling State University offices are open with normal business hours and students are expected to attend classes as scheduled", the university said in a tweet.

Authorities say the gunman shot the two men after an altercation before fleeing the scene.

The university police chief was informed of the shooting by a student and subsequently deployed officers to the scene, where both victims were pronounced dead, the TV channel, citing Sutton, added.

Williams said the shooting followed a fight that started inside a dorm room and spilled out into a courtyard around midnight Tuesday. The local sheriff's department has taken over the investigation from campus police.

CBS News reports that Lincoln Parish Sheriff's spokesman Stephen Williams told media outlets that detectives joined Grambling State campus police at the scene of the crime after receiving 911 calls starting at 12:04 AM, Wednesday morning.

"This is a terrible tragedy".

The campus was not put on lockdown following the incident, but students are being advised to stay inside. "Violence has no place on our campus", said Sutton.

The victims' families are now in mourning. We generally urge our understudies to be sheltered, to know, watch who they hang out with, and watch who's around consistently.
