Tennessee set to hire former Rutgers, NFL coach Greg Schiano, reports say

The Jon Gruden rumors yet again were just that, and Tennessee is picking another former Buccaneers head coach. Prior to that, he head been the head coach at Rutgers from 2001-11 and with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2012-13.

But now it appears the Volunteers have settled on Schiano.

The Volunteers fired Butch Jones on November 12, the day after they lost 50-17 at Missouri to fall to 0-6 in Southeastern Conference play.

He is now the associate head coach/defensive coordinator at Ohio State.

Photos of The Rock from Tennessee's campus surfaced Sunday with a strong statement about Schiano that references his time at Penn State. Schiano finished with a 68-67 record at Rutgers, but that run included two seasons with appearances in the top 10 and six bowl games in his final seven years. The Volunteers lost to Vanderbilt 42-24 to finish 4-8, 0-8 in the SEC, their first eight-loss season in school history and their first winless campaign in the SEC.

Two politicians Tweeted an anit-Schiano sentiment. He went 34-27 in his five seasons with the Vols.
