UCLA names Chip Kelly new head football coach

Kelly has worked as a TV analyst this season after spending the previous four as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers (2016) and Philadelphia Eagles (2013-15).

It was only a matter of time before Chip Kelly traded his TV gig for a head coaching job. Now, we reportedly know why he made the decision to land in the Pac-12 for the foreseeable future.

UCLA Athletics announced Saturday morning that Chip Kelly will be the Bruins' new head coach, less than a week after UCLA fired former head coach Jim Mora.

Chip Kelly appears headed back to the school. "His success speaks for itself, but more than that, I firmly believe that his passion for the game and his innovative approach to coaching student-athletes make him the flawless fit for our program". Florida had kept its options open while engaged with Kelly and is now prepared to pursue those other candidates. I'd like to thank Josh Rebholz, Casey Wasserman and Troy Aikman for their input during this process, as their candor, experience and support were invaluable. He guided OR to the national championship game after the 2010 season as well as three conference titles in his four years at the school. And now comes word from Pete Thamel who reports Kelly has picked UCLA and is finalizing the deal to be the Bruins new coach with an agreement expected by the end of the weekend.

Kelly is tasked with replacing Jim Mora, who went 46-30 in his six years in charge of the Bruins but was just 28-26 in Pac-12 play and 17-19 overall in the past three seasons.
