White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders will address the media at 1 p.m.
The guilty plea by Mr. Papadopoulos and a 20-count indictment against Paul Manafort, a former Trump campaign chairman, gave special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe momentum this week and put the White House on defense against allegations of collusion with the Kremlin during the 2016 presidential race.
In a stunning moment Huckabee Sanders actually described former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who worked for the campaign for more than five months, as someone who was hired "to handle the delegate process. and he was dismissed not too long after that".
"Today's announcement has nothing to do with the president, has nothing to do with the president's campaign", Sander said.
"This individual was a member of a volunteer council that met one time", she said of Papadopolous, adding nothing in today's indictments is "evidence of Trump-Russia collusion". MS. SANDERS: It was extremely limited; it was a volunteer position. "He reached out and nothing happened beyond that", she said. The dossier relied on a Russian government official and a Russian spy for information.
On Monday Sanders also said the President has "no intention" of firing Mueller, despite several past reports that said Trump has asked for advice on whether he could get rid of Mueller. CBS News justice reporter Paula Reid, however, said her sources still maintain that the investigation is not winding down and could in fact take years to be wrapped up. "The House is likely to consider the bill week of November 13th". The provision preventing government-funded sex reassignment surgery will remain in place as the order moves through the courts. She said the White House still expects Mueller's investigation to end "soon".
"This is something just announced", she said.
For their part, the Department of Justice did not respond to inquiries on the subject Monday afternoon.
