Ernie Cline is writing a sequel to Ready Player One

Even the new trailer just hints at the toy box full of familiar characters and vehicles in this movie, out in March 2018.

A Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks Pictures production, the Ready Player One movie is being directed by Spielberg, who is also producing alongside Donald De Line, under his De Line Pictures banner, Dan Farah and Kristie Macosko Krieger. I expect that the sequel would have more reference in this decade's pop culture, and the book will probably be titled Ready Player Two.

Since Cline made his literary debut with Ready Player One in 2011, he hasn't returned to the world that made him a breakout author and screenwriter for the upcoming adaptation of his book. Looking forward to Ready Player One? Cline didn't give any details on the plot or premise of the book, but said that he had the chance to bounce a few ideas off of Spielberg.

Cline had mentioned in 2015 that he had written several potential outlines for a Ready Player One sequel.

While the first trailer only provided a brief glimpse at Oasis, the film's virtual reality world in which players from everywhere compete against each other to find Easter eggs hidden by the game's creator, the new trailer spends most of its time inside the computer.

The story follows teenager Wade Watts (Sheridan) who lives in the "stacks" (a poverty stricken area), who joins the search for the Easter egg and is thrown into the dramatic race to win Halliday's fortune.

Following a visually stuffed and nostalgia-heavy teaser released earlier this year at San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. and Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment have released a full-length trailer for the sci-fi adventure film.
