Hearts end Celtic's 69-game unbeaten run

I thought in the first half particularly they were physically better than us and they thoroughly deserved their lead. We didn't cope with their physicality, and we made too many mistakes.

Sixteen-year-old Harry Cochrane got his first senior goal to set fifth-placed Hearts on their way.

"I know the disappointment and the honesty of the group; it was just a case of saying remember what this feels like - that obviously hurts - but also to remind them that what they've done is incredible", he said.

Ex-Rangers striker Lafferty doubled Hearts' advantage ten minutes later when he ran clean through and drove home off the post. To have gone through 69 games and this to be their first defeat; of course it's a sore one when you are beaten like that but they can hold their heads up.

At the end of the game the Hoops players huddled on the pitch, taking stock of the defeat.

After 18 months of pure success on Scottish soil, there is no precedent to point the reaction the Hoops will give to Sunday's bruising. Craig Levein has admitted that he is concerned for the safety of the talented teenagers who have burst into his Hearts team ahead of their time.

"We watched the Anderlecht game and they pressed them (Celtic) exceptionally well".

In those 69 games, Celtic scored an outrageous 197 goals - at an average of 2.9 goals per game.

There are little more than three days for the Bhoys to lick their wounds before they play a home fixture against Partick Thistle on Wednesday.
