We will be sure to keep our eyes on this important piece of legislation as it makes its way through the Senate.
"Concealed Carry Reciprocity" (HB38) is a radical bill that would allow people with unsafe histories to carry loaded, hidden handguns across the country.
Two things need to be noted here. "With concealed carry reciprocity, those who legally hold a concealed carry permit in one state can carry in another state without fear of accidentally breaking its laws". "This bill, will allow a law-abiding citizen to carry concealed gun only if they are not federally prohibited from possessing or receiving a firearm".
Combining these bills will be sacrificing actual progress for public safety in order to undermine state gun laws across the country. During the committee markup of the bill, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Rep.
Opponents said if the bill becomes law, it would infringe on NY strong gun control laws, called the SAFE Act, which were put on the books in 2013 following the school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut.
The bill was linked with legislation to improve the national background check system for gun purchases, a measure that has rare bipartisan consensus.
"This section shall not be construed to supersede or limit the laws of any state that permit private persons or entities to prohibit or restrict the possession of concealed firearms on their property, or prohibit or restrict the possession of firearms on any state or local government property, installation, building, base, or park". New Jersey is one of just 10 states that do not already recognize out-of-state concealed carry permits, which only reinforces the fact that New Jersey remains one of the leaders in understanding the value of tight gun controls.
MacArthur said that the legislation will prevent wrongful convictions of people like Shaneen Allen, a Pennsylvania nurse who in 2013 was arrested in New Jersey for carrying her weapon, something that she did not think violated any laws since she had a permit issued from her state.
So Boyle would have been accurate to say the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act overrides federal law concerning the carry of concealed weapons in a school zone.
"I'm proud of Texas, our history of responsible gun ownership and our requirements for a license to carry that seek to protect the ones we love from abusers, violent offenders, and stalkers", he added.
We rate this False.
