Alan Smith says Mesut Ozil is close to signing new contract

Arsene Wenger insists Arsenal still want Jack Wilshere to stay at the club, as talks over a new contract are ongoing.

And with Alexis Sanchez's move to Manchester United "likely to happen" in the next 24 hours, reports suggested Ozil would follow suit with a Gunners exit, although Wenger has since shot down the claims. He loves living in London and has made it clear he wants to stay.

Although Arsenal are favourites at EVENS to keep hold of their man by the time next season begins. He wants to be a legend. "They should be all sorted soon". I wish him well and thank him for everything he's done for us.

I find it quite unbelievable that Arsene Wenger is complaining that this transfer window is the worst that Arsenal have had to endure since his arrival, and he explained why in today's press conference. The German star has four goals and five assists in the league this season, and has undoubtedly become Arsenal's main creative threat.

Wilshere hadn't been offered a new deal until recently due to his well publicised issues with injuries, but the England midfielder has returned to fitness and form in the last month prompting a new deal to be offered. The Gunners has already sold two players this month with Theo Walcott departing for Everton and Francis Coquelin moving to Valencia.

There's plenty of rebuilding still to be done at the Emirates, but having Ozil and Wilshere there during that process should make it far smoother.
