Apple (finally) launches HomePod speaker - announces pre-order date

Apple's new HomePod will arrive in stores from Friday, February 9 and will be available for orders online from January 26, only in the US, UK, and Australia, while France and Germany shall be added to this list from spring.

Apple has recently confirmed that the HomePod smart speakers will be launched on the 9th of February, which means that there is a couple of weeks to go before it is available to the masses. Apple launched its first smart speaker HomePod back in September past year, together with the latest iPhones, and it was expected to hit the shelves by the end of 2017.

Also during the visit, Financial Post held an interview with Cook to discuss the HomePod and what the current home speaker competitors (Amazon and Google) arent quite doing right. The tech behemoth has already missed the busy holiday rush when Amazon's Echo and Google's Home lineup did brisk business.

It's powered by an A8 chip, which is the same processor that Apple used for the iPhone 6.

So while your shiny HomePod may work in Canada if you buy it from elsewhere, Siri will be limited to English only, until additional updates bring support for more languages.

HomePod UK release date revealed - Apple confirms smart speaker is coming soon

"The HomePod is being positioned more as a competitor to Sonos' high-end wireless speakers than as a competitor to the plethora of low-cost smart speakers flooding the market", The Verge reported. It is available in two colours: space grey and white. However, recent approval from the United States telecoms regulator, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), should bring it a step closer to release, expected Q1 2018, in the USA, the United Kingdom and Australia. The publication also revealed that the launch of the HomePod could be imminent.

Philip Schiller, Apple Senior VP of Worldwide people will " be blown away" by the device's audio quality.

The 7-inch smart speaker is precisely built to deliver high quality audio.

Here's why you should probably skip the HomePod.

In the U.S., you can get it through Apple Stores and at select Apple Authorized Resellers, such as Best Buy. Users with a subscription will be able to access Apple Music, and check news, sports weather and more through the device. Those who don't subscribe to Apple Music may have a tough time listening to music through the app, since it won't connect with Spotify, either.
