Partly because it doesn't - as Lawrence said, it's just a dress she chose to wear - but also because all of the disgusting things that women have to endure are revealing in themselves.
"It doesn't have anything to do with partisan [politics]", she told Entertainment Tonight.
"I mean, it was pretty ridiculous to get angry over something like that". "I would have stood in the snow for that dress because I love fashion and that was my choice", she said.
Because the dress is sleeveless, Lawrence's arms are exposed to the elements, as is her leg in the dress' thigh-high slit.
Let's be honest, the whole cycle of this is revealing & depressing. "Not least because I've been outside today and it's blooding FREEZING", one Twitter user wrote.
She concluded by hinting that the spat only pulled attention away from real issues like the #MeToo movement, urging people to "get a grip".
Of course, nobody is suggesting Lawrence - an Oscar-winning actor worth an estimated $140 million - was forced to dress the way she did, or was denied access to warmer clothing. The fail-safe black ASOS dress that you turn to in a moment of sheer desperation, hoping that no one will realise you've worn it to every social occasion for the past year and then there's the knockout dress.
Lawrence has repeatedly discussed temporarily stepping back from her acting career.
"This is sexist, this is ridiculous, this is not feminism", she added.
ET recently spoke to the always outspoken actress about her highly anticipated spy thriller, out March 2, when she candidly said she was "very direct" when it comes to men she's interested in.
