During his speech at the National Prayer Breakfast Thursday morning (Feb. 8), President Donald Trump talked about Brownfield, Texas girl Sophia Campa-Peters, who is recovering after major brain surgery.
The Prayer breakfast is a bipartisan event co-chaired by a Democrat and a Republican.
The U.N. World Food Programme Executive Director, David Beasley, who prayed for sustainable policies to address world hunger, read a passage from Matthew 25, and emphasized that "every human on the face of the earth was made in [God's] image". He's the first speaker addressing the more than 3, 500people attending the event. Our founders invoked our Creator four times in the Declaration of Independence.
After hearing Trump's speech, Nick Fish, spokesman for American Atheists, an organization that advocates for the exclusion of religion in policymaking decisions, told The Washington Post: "This is something that we've been confronting with this president for more than a year now".
He thanked Sophia and her mother, going on share how Sophia had told him that "I have a great mom".

A special counsel and congressional committees are investigating Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election via hacked emails and fake news.
Organizers changed the name from the Presidential Prayer Breakfast in 1970. "In her wonderful, 9-year-old mind, that meant creating a goal of just reaching 10,000 people", Sanders said at the briefing.
"Each president presents a different set of problems", Hunter said.
Later in Trump's remarks last year, he vowed to "totally destroy" a law passed more than 60 years ago that bans tax-exempt churches from supporting political candidates - a nod to the religious right that helped sweep him into office. Millions and millions of people lifted Sophia up in their prayers. Last year, the keynote was Barry Black, the first African American and the first Seventh-day Adventist chaplain of the Senate.
