Trump's speechwriter, Sorensen, resigns over abuse allegations

The "leader of the free world" lashed out at the popular movement against sexual harassment in a rant. "That should have been the statement".

Though the subject of the tweet is unclear, it comes just a day after Trump defended former staff secretary Rob Porter, who resigned amidst allegations of domestic abuse from his two ex-wives.

White House chief of staff John Kelly reacted to the accusations by describing Porter as a "man of true integrity", while Trump declared that his aide "did a very good job". The abuse claims were first reported in a British tabloid, The Daily Mail. In a statement released Wednesday evening, Kelly said he was "shocked" by the "new allegations" against Porter.

The president tweeted, "Peoples lives are being shattered and destroyed by a mere allegation". He didn't mention Porter by name.

Porter resigned from his White House position this week after the accusations became public. He has denied his wife's claims.

White House legislative affairs director Marc Short made similar arguments on NBC's "Meet The Press" on Sunday, after host Chuck Todd showed a highlights reel of Trump suggesting numerous allegations of sexual abuse and physical assault by powerful men against women were false.

Speier feels Trump's lack of defense of victims runs contrary to the momentum behind more people speaking out against violence against women.

Asked the same question about Kelly on ABC, Conway replied, "General Kelly has said otherwise, and you would have to ask him the question squarely".

Lisa Fierstein appeared in disguise on a 1990 episode titled "High Class Battered Women".

Trump's tweet drew backlash from some on social media, including third-ranking Senate Democrat Patty Murray.

Hicks reportedly knew about the allegations but continued to date Porter, and did not make the president aware of the developments.

She said Puzder "assaulted and battered me by striking me violently about the face, chest, back, shoulders, and neck, without provocation or cause", and leaving "bruises and contusions to the chest, back, shoulders, and neck" and "two ruptured discs and two bulging discs".

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace wants the women of the White House to rise up, resign, and walk out. "He said, 'Tell Jake I have full faith in Chief of Staff John Kelly and that I am not actively searching for replacements, '" Conway said.

"This blatant denial of any wrongdoing is unacceptable, " she posted.

An FBI background check previous year had uncovered the allegations of abuse by Porter, and the agency refused to grant him a permanent security clearance, but he was allowed to remain in his job. He did not elaborate. He said Kelly presented himself as an ally within the administration.

Kelly also drew Trump's ire last month when he seemed to suggest that the president was flip-flopping on his call for a border wall.

"My experience made me stronger and able to love more deeply", she said. "Where are the voices of my Republican colleagues?".

David Sorensen, a speechwriter who worked under Trump senior policy advisor Stephen Miller, abruptly resigned Friday night as The Washington Post was reporting on domestic abuse allegations by his ex-wife Jessica Corbett.

The fast-food CEO was forced to withdraw his nomination to be labor secretary last February after a decades-old "Oprah Winfrey Show" interview resurfaced, featuring his ex-wife alleging domestic abuse.

On Friday, former Vice President Joe Biden, who as a legislator helped pass the Violence Again Women Act, criticized Trump's comment about Porter.
