Arizona's Deandre Ayton is destined for greatness — March Madness

The No. 11 seed Orange advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament Wednesday night when they defeated No. 11 Arizona State 60-56 in a First Four game in Dayton, Ohio.

Three seasons later, though, it was this three-man backcourt that returned ASU to prominence under the tutelage of their coach and brought "Guard U" into existence.

"It was just a blur", he said. "You know that's your last game".

SU athletic trainer Brad Pike walked out to examine the situation. He hit a pair of 3s and had a steal and layup as the Orange opened with a 10-7 run. At that point, all eyes on the arena were pointed toward a motionless Syracuse freshman.

"I remember one time in the Bahamas I showed him the spin move because people would try to cut him off and he wouldn't change direction", UA forward Rawle Alkins said. "Seven points, that's not hard for us to get back". The double-double was his 13 of the season.

Syracuse recovered and Brissett drained a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 44-42 with 7:51 left. He had two assists and one steal in 37 minutes.

"We understand this is just the beginning", Syracuse guard Frank Howard said.

This wasn't just an evenly matched game across the first 20 minutes it was nearly frighteningly so. That's special. We know what he can do.

No team enters the NCAA Tournament with as many dark clouds surrounding it as Arizona.

The same Washington team coached by Mike Hopkins, a former Syracuse assistant coach, who implements an Orange-esque 2-3 zone. "I have such a connection with them". Howard then made two free throws with 0.4 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Orange. "Hopefully, I can get past the jitters", Clark said. "[I] got a country on my back that I'm representing". "And he turned around and played awesome".

While ultimately unsuccessful in terms of on-court results, senior guards Tra Holder, Shannon Evans and Kodi Justice brought something that has evaded the program just as much: national prominence. He could beat his man off the dribble.

When Ayton plays 2K, he chooses the Golden State Warriors, which obviously makes the game a little easier.

This game will be a battle of styles, with the Sun Devils' 14th-ranked offense going head-to-head with Syracuse's 16th-ranked defense.

"Coach has given me a lot of confidence".

"I don't look at the season in any stretch of the mind as a disappointment", Hurley said. "We're going to have a problem guarding their size on the one end, and they're going to have a problem guarding our athleticism and the floor being spread on the other end". "Whenever I'm in those positions, I want to knock 'em down". But he has since returned to the sideline, leading Arizona to a Pac-12 title, and has vehemently denied paying Ayton. Syracuse responded to close the gap. Unable to afford his own tuition, Clark went to work that fall so he could enroll at Buffalo for the spring semester previous year. Holder missed a jumper at 3:14 and Brissett rebounded the miss.

And while ASU seems pleased enough with getting to its fifth NCAA Tournament in 25 years, there's more to it than that. It went quite well.
