Katy Perry Appears to Give Taylor Swift Backhanded Compliment on 'American Idol'

The songstresses were once friends, but their falling out was first signaled by Swift's song "Bad Blood". And while there has been talk of peace in the past, a new episode of American Idol has some on social media speculating that the feud is far from over.

One of the judges, Luke Bryan, asked one of the contestants who he looks up to as an artist.

"I love Taylor Swift", the contestant added. "She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me", Swift claimed in a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone, though she did not specify who she was referring to at the time. While some couldn't help but laugh at the moment, calling it "awkward", others were left "screaming" over the interaction.

It's hard to say whether it was intended as a pointed jab, or if it was a simple offhand comment about Swift's songwriting skills.

Katy Perry keeps making headlines while being a judge on American Idol.

It's nice of Perry to respect Swift on a professional level, but clearly, there is no personal love between the two. Perry then tweeted, "Watch out for the Regina George in sheep's clothing..." about Swift. Now, some American Idol fans think Perry's response to the contestant's profession of love for Taylor was pure shade. She then went on Carpool Karaoke and declared that it was Swift's job to finish their fight because she started it. She kept silent while Perry went on a press tour for "Swish Swish" and her album "Witness".

The two have been fighting back and forth ever since.

Perry, who is also a judge on the show, seemed fine with it.

"I was like, 'Oh, we're just straight-up enemies.' And it wasn't even about a guy!" Either squash the beef and move on or keeping hating, but going back and forth isn't a good look.
