Canadian junior hockey team bus involved in fatal crash, report says

A truck has collided with a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos ice hockey team in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan, killing and injuring an unknown number of people, local officials say.

Nipawin RCMP said there are fatalities and a number of injuries, but were unable to confirm how many.

RCMP are reporting a serious collision between a hockey team's bus and a semi-trailer unit near the intersection of Highways #35 and #335.

The game is cancelled, according to the Nipawin team.

STARS Air Ambulance tweeted that a crew had been dispatched to the Ridgedale, Sask. area.

Nipawin Apostolic Church was set up as a location for families to gather.

RCMP said traffic was expected to be blocked for several hours and drivers can expect lengthy delays.

This is a breaking story and will be updated as more information becomes available. Motorists were being asked to avoid the area. Emergency measures and victim services personnel were to attend that site.
