Steelers select WR, QB, OT in rounds 2-3 of draft

He the first OSU quarterback selected in an National Football League draft since Brandon Weeden was taken in the first round in 2012.

Fichtner hopes Roethlisberger, 36, plays another four-to-six years - "I keep my fingers crossed he plays as long as he wants", he said - but believes competition in the quarterback room will improve everyone.

The two put on a show during their time with the Cowboys.

The Steelers traded with the Seahawks to draft Rudolph. "(But) I'm a little done with the comparison questions.

Rudolph went was the 12th pick of the third round (76th overall). He led the Cowboys to a 32-9 record as a starter and finished his career with 54 school records, including the single season and career records for passing yards, passing touchdowns and pass efficiency.

"He's intelligent (and) he held down his position for a long time", Fichtner said.

The Steelers' first preseason game is August 9 at Philadelphia.

This is the second straight year the Steelers have taken a wide receiver in the second round. They selected JuJu Smith-Schuster in the second round of the 2017 draft. Rudolph passed for 497 yards and five touchdowns, including five passes for 124 yards to Washington, as the Cowboys rolled Pittsburgh 59-21 last September. He's much more polished than either of those guys were upon being drafted. The Steelers took safety Terrell Edmunds in the first round but focused on offense Friday despite glaring needs at inside linebacker and the secondary.

Although they selected Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick, the Browns could add another QB on Day Three.
