Trump lawyer forced to reveal Hannity connection

A week after his online war of words with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Kimmel had the opportunity to comment on Monday's surprising courtroom revelation that Hannity was a client of President Donald Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen.

The disclosure came as Mr Cohen's attorneys tried to persuade a federal judge in NY to delay prosecutors from examining records and electronic devices seized in the raids on the grounds that many of them are protected by attorney-client privilege. Hannity, the top-rated personality on the most watched U.S. cable news network, told his viewers on April 9 that the raid on Cohen was part an effort by federal investigators to wrongly impeach the president. "Of course not, because this is what the media in this country does", said one of the top-rated in hosts in American news media.

That request came as a result of Cohen's lawyer at the hearing, Todd Harrison, claiming that "thousands" of documents involved would be protected by attorney-client privilege.

It's been a rough start to the week for Sean Hannity.

As The New York Magazine reports, there is no bigger Trump cheerleader in the cable news channel than Hannity himself.

The third client, Mr Cohen said, had refused to give him permission to be publicly named.

A person familiar with the raids said last week that the information Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were seeking included information about payments to Daniels.

"I never retained him in the traditional sense as retaining a lawyer; I never received an invoice from Michael; I never paid legal fees to Michael, but I have, occasionally, had brief discussions with him about legal questions about which I wanted his input and perspective", Hannity said on the radio.

"I have occasionally had brief discussions with him about legal questions about which I wanted his input and perspective", Hannity tweeted, adding that those conversations "dealt nearly exclusively about real estate".

During the show, Mr. Hannity described the F.B.I. raid, adding, "Now, what that means is Mueller's witch-hunt investigation is now a runaway train that is clearly careening off the tracks".

His attorneys filed a letter with the court Monday that provided general information about Cohen's legal work but pointedly withheld the name of one of his three law clients.

Last week, it was revealed that Cohen had helped Broidy negotiate a $1.6 million settlement with a former Playboy model who got pregnant after they had an affair.

"President Trump's long-time personal attorney, Michael Cohen, just had his office, his home, and his hotel that he was staying in raided by the Federal Bureau of Investigation today in an early morning raid".

But Judge Kimba Wood ruled his application for a preliminary injunction was premature.

Trump may have undermined his own argument for protecting the records when he told reporters that he wasn't aware of the $130,000 payment to the porn actress.

Hannity denied he ever actually hired Cohen, suggesting he was just getting informal advice, but, you know, formal enough for it to be protected by attorney-client privilege.
