Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be coming out of his global retirement to participate in the FIFA World Cup 2018, Russian Federation the Swedish FA confirmed on Thursday. He said he has not changed his decision regarding playing in the national team.
Ibrahimovic, who retired from worldwide competition after Euro 2016, represented Sweden in the World Cup in 2002 and in 2006.
National manager Lars Richt has made it clear that Ibrahimovic is not applicable to the World Cup squad Janne Andersson will present on May 15th.
The suggestion that the outspoken striker could return to the global stage for this summer's tournament inevitably led to questions being directed at Sweden boss Janne Andersson.
"What I wanted to say was that this was the demonstration that our collective acted like this during the whole length of the play-offs. Said he wants to return to the team, but it's not so", - quotes the words of RICHT official website of the Football Association of Sweden.
