Low makes shock call to leave Sane out

The 22-year-old played a key role for Manchester City who won the English Premier League title and Carabao Cup.

Sane must be gutted, as was Donovan in 2014, but at least the former USMNT star was able to have some fun at his own expense.

He only has 12 caps to his name, just six of those have been starts, and he is yet to score for his country but you can not say that he has not been given a fair chance to prove himself; four of his six starts have come in his last six outings.

Sane has been left out of the final 23-man selection, however, with Julian Brandt and fit-again Marco Reus preferred.

Despite Sane's fine performances this season, Low has instead favoured Bayern Leverkusen's winger Julien Brandt.

"Julian Brandt had some good games at the Confederations Cup and was also very good in training, it was close".

Sane's omission from the German squad shocked many football pundits and fans. For instance, his final 23 contains only two out-and-out strikers: Mario Gomez and Timo Werner.

England beat Nigeria 2-1 before the World Cup 2018, with goals from Cahill, Kane and Iwobi.

Germany were reportedly turned off when Sane made a decision to snub last year's Confederations Cup in favour of having surgery on his nose.

Walker wrote: "When you find out Leroy Sane isn't going to the World Cup".

Given Sane has played in six of Germany's last seven games, it is also fair to say he has been given enough chances to stake a claim.

Can you think of a better player who's staying at home?

"If something happens at the back, we need alternatives, so I had to make that hard decision".
