New Joker Standalone Movie Starring Jared Leto Is Officially Happening

Then there's the proposed "Mad Love" inspired movie with Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, who is also set to headline the upcoming Birds of Prey movie with director Cathy Yan.

The current list of announced projects on the DC Comics slate of movies at Warner Bros is hefty, and there are now four Joker-family movies announced, with Suicide Squad 2 as the fourth which is still evidently on the way. According to multiple reports today, Warner moving forward with a film that Leto will also executively produce.

Warner Bros is reportedly planning to make a movie on the version of Joker played by Jared Leto in David Ayer's Suicide Squad (2016), Variety reported. Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to play the character in that film but no overlap between the two is expected.

Leto's Joker film will become the second film on Joker to be under production by Warner Bros and DC Comics once an official announcement is made.

Instead, Phillips film would fall under a new "origins" banner which would be completely separate from the established DC cinematic universe.

This Joker standalone is now searching for a writer, and it's not clear when it would start filming.

It remains unknown whether the movie will be released before or after the Suicide Squad sequel, or whether it will tie in with the plot of the movie in any way whatsoever.

As you can see, the Clown Prince of Crime's suit is pretty similar to what we got in the film, but his face has an older and more mature look to it.
