"Solo" may blaze new trail for Disney: Losing money for "Star Wars"

Star Wars: The Last Jedi's Kelly Marie Tran has purged her Instagram, allegedly due to long-term harassment by fans.

"We like & dislike stuff but we do it with humour, love & respect". Add Star Wars as an interest to stay up to date on the latest Star Wars news, video, and analysis from ABC News.

Rose Tico's character page on Wookieepedia, an online Star Wars encyclopaedia, was changed so that she was renamed "Ching Chong Wing Tong" - a slur used to mock the East Asian accent.

Tran has experienced backlash from some trolls who targeted her ethnicity and appearance.

In one particular instance, her entry on the Star Wars Wikipedia page was edited to include offensive remarks about the star's appearance and heritage. "We're the VAST majority", noted the Last Jedi director.

In a post from October (screengrabbed on Buzzfeed), she said she "avoided public social media for a long time purely because I was afraid".

But since her debut, Tran's social media accounts have been hit hard by racist and sexist comments according to reports, prompting speculation that the abuse is behind Tran deleting her posts.

'And I didn't sign up for people to go, "You're wonderful!"

A minority of cruel so-called fans of the franchise had been consistently pestering her Instagram posts with racist and misogynistic comments since The Last Jedi came out last December. Bang!. By December, however, she'd become a historic part of the Star Wars universe: the first woman of color to play a leading role in the series.

Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley also deleted her Instagram account temporarily in 2016, reportedly due to abuse she received online.

"The Lord of the Rings" star Elijah Wood tweeted Tuesday night, "I [heart] #kellymarietran and her incredible work in The Last Jedi".

TooFab has reached out to Tran as well as the Star Wars fan account for clarification, but has yet to hear back.

Kumail Nanjiani said: "I totally embarrassingly fanned out when I met Kelly Marie Tran". But I didn't sign up for them to say things like, "Your skin is s***" either'.

Ridley later told Glamour magazine: "I was on Instagram, trying to do that whole thing, and people weren't very nice".
