Hotel mattress blamed for Marcelo injury

A soft mattress may be behind the back injury that forced Brazil left-back Marcelo out of his country's 2-0 victory over Serbia, according to the team's medical staff.

Although doctors said none of the injuries was serious, it wasn't immediately clear which player would be available for Monday's round-of-16 match against Mexico in Samara.

The Kwese studio crew break down all the important statistics and point out what Brazil did better than their competition to finish atop Group E. The Real Madrid defender was replaced with Filipe Luis and the Atletico Madrid defender is expected to retain the starting spot when the Selecao face Mexico in the second round.

Team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar announced late Saturday that Danilo, the right back who plays for Manchester City could play in the round-of-16 match on Monday at Samara Stadium. The injury may be related to the hotel mattress.

Marcelo missed three Real Madrid matches due to a hamstring injury in February but has otherwise been largely injury free in recent years.

Brazil's team doctor has offered a freaky excuse for why defender Marcelo was substituted during the country's final group match against Serbia on Thursday. "We are optimistic he can be used in the game", Lasmar said. Soon I will be back!

Tite says he intends to copy positive aspects of the win over Serbia.
