Microsoft has released a nice competitor to Apple’s iPad

That's significantly cheaper than the rest of the £650+ Surface Pro range.

The lightweight, 1.15-pound Surface Go - about twice as big as many smartphones - is created to be portable, but Microsoft has also developed accessories to give it more of a laptop feel.

"That's the idea behind the design of Surface Go - our smallest, lightest, and most affordable Surface yet", said Panos Panay, Chief Product Officer at Microsoft.

The Surface Go certainly seems to fill a gap in the range for Microsoft and we were fans of the Surface 3, not least because it offered numerous advantages of Microsoft's brilliant 2-in-1 design from the full-blown Surface Pro. The device is equipped with an Intel processor, the base model will get CPU Pentium Silver N5000, and the older models can be equipped with Pentium Gold (Gold 4410Y Intel Pentium or Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y from Kaby Lake). A release date of Friday 13 July had been rumoured, although perhaps thanks to the leaks, Microsoft has now officially announced the tablet, and preorders are now live. This will considerably jack up the cost of the Surface Go all-in-all. Meet the Surface Go, a $399 Surface device that's cheaper, less powerful, but far more compact than its bigger siblings.

It comes with 10-inch custom-built high-resolution PixelSense Display that supports Surface Pen with 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, low pen parallax, low latency, and precision for accurate note taking, drawing and computer-aided design.

Microsoft Surface Go has a kickstand like other Surface models.

What do you think about the 10-inch Surface Go?

In terms of connectivity, Microsoft has stated that it comes with the Surface Connect charging and docking port alongside a USB Type-C connector "for data, video and charging". For the version with four gigabytes of RAM and storage on the 64 GB will have to pay $399, and a configuration with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD was priced at $549. It goes on sale on August 2 with Wi-Fi connectivity. "I'm pumped to introduce you to Surface Go, because it's all those things, and so much more".

For security, the laptop comes with TPM 2.0 for Enterprise security and also has Windows Hello face authentication camera on the front which uses a 5 MP unit. The trackpad also supports five point multi-finger gestures, and you can also connect the new Surface Mobile Mouse if you do not want to use the trackpad. The company has plans to bring LTE version later this year.
