Scott Pruitt Out as EPA Chief

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that his embattled Environmental Protection Agency chief, Scott Pruitt, had resigned.

According to The Post: "The Trump administration appointees described an administrator who sought a salary that topped $200,000 for his wife and accepted help from a subordinate in the job search, requested aid from senior EPA officials in a dispute with a Washington landlord and disregarded concerns about his first-class travel". Reports also indicate Pruitt asked EPA staff to run personal errands for him not pertaining to the agency's responsibilities and he has had close ties with industry giants the agency has previously regulated. I have no doubt that Andy will continue on with our great and lasting EPA agenda.

"We have made tremendous progress and the future of the EPA is very bright!" he tweeted. Environmental groups expressed dismay when he joined the federal agency, and Pruitt has since sought to roll back various environmental regulations, including Obama-era auto emission standards.

In his resignation letter, posted by Fox News, the former Oklahoma attorney general thanked President Trump for his courage and commitment to "historical regulatory reform".

After finally getting Pruitt's political scalp, the opposition party demanded more - ironically adopting Trump's own campaign rhetoric about the Washington establishment.

The Senate confirmed Wheeler in April by a 53-45 vote, mostly along party lines. Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) and James Inhofe (R-OK) - who voted to approve his nomination in February. The president cheered his EPA chief's moves to boost fossil fuel production and roll back regulations opposed by corporate interests. "He is, without question, a member of the coal industry's Hall of Fame", said Sen. "Andrew worked for me for 14 years, has an impeccable reputation and has the experience to be a strong leader at the EPA", Inhofe said.

Kieran Suckling, from America's Centre for Biological Diversity, said: "Despite his brief tenure, Pruitt was the worst EPA chief in history". "Sadly, the ideological fervor with which Pruitt pursued the destruction of environmental regulations and the agency itself live on in the Trump administration".

"We deserve to have somebody at the EPA who actually does protect our environment", she says to him in the video. Joe Manchin, D-West Virginia, were the only Democrats to support Wheeler. All three face tough re-elections in states Trump won easily last fall. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J.

One current and one former EPA official told Politico that Pruitt's appointees are stonewalling the report's release "every step of the way" over concerns that the report's release would have a negative impact on businesses that use the chemical.

"It has become increasingly challenging for the EPA to carry out its mission with the administrator under investigation", said Barrasso, who is from Wyoming.
