Bielsa Won’t Get Carried Away After Leeds Hammer Lampard’s Derby

Leeds gatecrashed Frank Lampard's party with a powerful attacking display that swept Derby aside 4-1 at Pride Park.

Former England global Lampard won his first game as manager 2-1 against _ thanks to a last-minute victor, but couldn't repeat the trick in his first home game in charge.

Bielsa was then able to offer a Whites debut to Jamie Shackleton with the head coach then presenting a first Whites start to £7m striker signing Patrick Bamford with 12 minutes left. Tom Lawrence's direct running was too much for Luke Ayling, the right-back bringing down the Welsh global outside the corner of the penalty area.

Derby had the first opening as Harry Wilson and new boy Martyn Waghorn caused problems and when the ball fell to Mason Mount six yards out he was unable to turn the ball home under pressure.

And while Leeds 'keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell definitely could have done better, there's no denying the quality of the hit.

"I've always wanted to manage a club with a big tradition and history like Derby County, so this is a huge opportunity". While the defenders stood off him the Polish midfielder calmly picked his spot and curled a shot beyond the reach of Scott Carson for his second goal in two games this season.

Leeds are relentless under Bielsa though, rarely allowing opponents time to settle on the ball while they get forward quickly once they have possession.

Lampard made a change, bringing on Bradley Johnson for Joe Ledley, and Derby opened Leeds up in the 47th minute but Mount dragged his shot wide with Waghorn just failing to connect. Carson was called into action to deny Roofe at point blank range with Tomori making a last-ditch block to deny Ayling on the rebound.

Former England forward Jay Rodriguez scored twice as relegated West Bromwich Albion got their first win of the season in a sensational 4-3 victory at Norwich City.

Hernandez made a great run to pull the ball back from the right for Alioski to head past Carson, and Saiz should have had a fifth for the visitors but miskicked with the goal at his mercy.
