Spurs to play Liverpool in Wembley due to stadium delay

The opening of Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium has been delayed until October at the earliest, and at least two more Premier League matches will now be played at Wembley, along with an NFL game, the club announced on Tuesday.

Kane has only recently returned from his summer break after helping England to the World Cup semi-finals, but the club captain - along with Three Lions teammates Eric Dier and Dele Alli - are all named in Mauricio Pochettino's starting lineup.

However Tottenham, fielding several of their World Cup stars including England's Harry Kane and Dele Alli, grew stronger as the game progressed.

"Of course it's hard to understand for people in football that Tottenham didn't sign or sell players, but sometimes in football you need to behave differently", he said.

Tottenham came in for plenty of criticism on transfer deadline day, when they became the first Premier League team in the history of the summer window not to buy or sell a single player. We've got a fantastic squad here, fantastic players throughout the team in every position.

"If we want to win and challenge for big things we need to all put our minds and energy into the collective and understand that the collective is the most important".

Spurs took an eighth-minute lead after goalline technology proved that Jan Vertonghen's header had crossed the line but it was short-lived as Joselu headed in from a sumptuous Matt Ritchie cross.

Though the National Football League has held at least one game a year in London for a decade, this is the first time that the Seahawks are playing in England.

He scored his side's victor during their 2-1 opening-game victory over the Magpies at St James' Park on Saturday.

"Everyone has been so excited about the prospect of playing in the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and I know all at the Club are very disappointed, but determined to clear this final hurdle", league vice president of global Mark Waller said.

Their glee didn't last long, however, with Alli arriving at the back post to head in Serge Aurier's deep cross for what proved to be the victor. But at the same time you could see our team spirit and the chances that we had.

"Obviously, today we faced probably the biggest favourite to win the title, next week we have another big game but we will be better prepared because we have this game behind us".
