In exchange for Gordon, Cleveland will get a 5th round draft pick. But just days later, things turned toward separation between the Browns and Gordon, who thanked the organization via an Instagram post.

The Browns announced Saturday that they would release Gordon on Monday. He appeared in 41 career games and totaled 180 receptions for 3,106 yards with 16 touchdowns.

Gordon spent most of training camp away from the team while tending to personal matters.

If Gordon lands in New England and can stay on the field - and that's a big "if" - he could be an instant threat for the Patriots.

Gordon caught a game-tying 17-yard touchdown pass in the Browns' Week 1 tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers, his lone catch of the game.

Josh Gordon's odd, stuttering career will start anew in New England. The receiver led the league with 1,646 receiving yards in 2013, despite the fact that he played in only 14 games.

Gordon's tantalizing talent had caused the Browns to hang onto him while he dealt with drug and alcohol dependence dating his teens.

Wide receiver Josh Gordon is headed to the Patriots.

Despite his past issues, Gordon was welcomed back by the Browns late last season.

According to NFL Media's Mike Giardi, Gordon has yet to go through a physical with the Patriots, so perhaps, this is what Belichick is waiting for.

He sat out the first 11 games previous year before returning for Cleveland's final five games, and caught 18 passes for 335 yards and one touchdown.
