The move comes after DAZN, which only launched in the U.S. in September, looks to exploit a gap in the market after HBO announced it will end its 45-year history of broadcasting boxing at the end of 2018.
"Canelo is the highest-paid athlete in the world", Alvarez's promoter, Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy, told ESPN.
After besting Golovkin (and perhaps before that), Canelo is boxing preeminent Pay-Per-View draw in the modern era following Floyd Mayweather's dominant reign in the middle to lower weight classes.
For 9.99 per month on a subscription basis to DAZN that you can cancel anytime, boxing fans will be able to watch his fight on December 15th at Madison Square Garden against Rocky Fielding for a fraction of the price as well as getting an entire month's boxing content.
Whilst Alvarez will still fight under the Golden Boy banner, his connection to DAZN could allow for fights with English fighters signed with Hearn.
"He's extremely happy", De La Hoya told ESPN after Alvarez signed his new contract.
His contract surpasses that of Giancarlo Stanton, who signed a 13-year, $325 million pact with the Miami Marlins in 2014. "The most important thing to me was being able to give the fans the opportunity to see me fight without having to pay the US$70 or US$80 for my fights on pay-per-view. That was the most important thing, more important than what I am making".
"The December fight with Fielding is a unsafe fight", he said.
"It is a good factor in some ways - but I know he is an all-around complete fighter".
Canelo Alvarez, fresh off his razor-thin split decision "victory" over Gennady Golovkin, which, in this writer's opinion, was an absolute shambles of a result, has signed the highest-earning sports contract of all time.
"I've always liked a challenge, and this is yet another challenger in my career", Alvarez said in a statement. Now Alvarez will seek to join a small and illustrious list of three-division world champions from Mexico as he steps up to 168 pounds to challenge Fielding.
Globally, DAZN is a live and on-demand sports streaming service created by fans, for fans, that is leading the charge to provide access to sports anytime, anywhere.
The partnership with Alvarez and Golden Boy is the latest major deal for DAZN in the combat sports industry.
