Gunman dead and two wounded in Alabama mall shooting

An 18-year-old man from Birmingham was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

A 12-year-old girl was also struck and injured, Rector said, but it's unclear by whom.

The Hoover Fire Department took her to Children's Hospital in a rescue unit, and she is in stable condition, Rector said.

21-year-old Emantic Fitzgerald Bradford Jr., black male from Hueytown was pronounced dead at the scene on Thursday, Nov. 22, at 10:11 p.m. "And then they opened the escape-route doors, and we escaped through the escape-route doors".

A shooting at an Alabama mall Thursday night left at two people injured and the one person dead, according to multiple news outlets.

Lexi Joiner told Al.com she was shopping with her mother when the gunfire started.

"We are devastated by the incident that happened tonight in our shopping center".

The gunman attempted to flee but was spotted by two uniformed police officers, and one of them drew their weapon and shot and killed him.

According to the Riverchase Galleria website, the mall was scheduled to open until midnight (local time), and was scheduled to open at 6:00 a.m. for Black Friday shopping.

"It was terrifying, " Joiner said. The other man pulled out a gun and shot the 18-year-old, he said.

Two separate rings of gunshots could be heard inside the mall by witnesses, who described the scene as chaotic with customers screaming and mall staff working to lock down the center, which the Hoover Police Department said is now secure.

"We believe last we heard that she was alert, conscious, and talking, and that maybe she was going into surgery", said Captain Gregg Rector, the Hoover Public Information Officer, during a press conference following the shooting.
