The latest Game of Throne trailer teases the series' final season

The first official teaser of the upcoming season of HBO's hugely popular Game of Thrones is here.

Following that brief three-second glimpse of footage earlier this year, this animation shows the Houses of Westeros freezing and burning on the table at Dragonstone, clashing together in ice and fire. Winter is officially here.

HBO dropped the 39-second clip overnight and nearly immediately people started speculating over what it all means despite it not showing any footage of the much-anticipated season eight.

Anyway, the new trailer is here and it's basically just a load of ice being met by a load of fire and fuck knows what any of that means. The teaser is rich with symbolism - each animal represents one noble house of the Seven Kingdoms, which controls the fictional continent of Westeros where much of the show is set.

There has been all kinds of speculation and reports on what's to come, both with the final season and various proposed spin-offs.

Next, we see the wolf, representing the forces of Winterfell frozen solid, and then a Targaryen dragon. But it's not all ice; we also see Lannister Lion of the South catching fire.

"Game of Thrones" returns to HBO in April.

Who will win? Fire or ice?

Although the flagship series is ending, HBO has multiple projects set in the Game of Thrones universe now in development. The eight season of the popular fantasy drama will premiere in April, nearly two years after season seven.
