Wanted: NYPD seeks couple who lost engagement ring in Times Square

The couple, from the United Kingdom, made headlines around the world when their engagement ring fell down a utility grate in Times Square during what was believed to be Drennan's proposal. No doubt the ring will be returned to its owners in no time at all and the pair can have another go at their special moment.

The NYPD said Saturday the couple asked police for help at 11:55 p.m. after the ring fell approximately eight feet down a utility grate.

According to the New York City Police Department, the man was proposing to his girlfriend just before midnight on Friday, when he dropped the ring.

Police had posted the CCTV footage of the couple trying to get the ring from the grate and used Twitter to appeal to find them.

NYPD is expected to release more information later Sunday.

NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill urged twitter to "do its thing" and reunite the couple with their ring. There is also a request along with the video -"help us find them".

Thank you, Twitter. Case closed!

In a following tweet, the NYPD shared a picture of the ring all clean and shiny. But by then the couple was nowhere to be found.

Good news came earlier today, with reports the couple had been located.

Luckily, the NYPD has managed to retrieve the trinket and are now looking for the couple to give it back.

"I tried to tell John it was too big, but he insisted I wear it", Ms Anthony said.
