Pacers' Oladipo leaves court on stretcher with 'serious' knee injury

Their star shooting guard Victor Oladipo suffered a horrendous knee injury as against the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night.

Feel-good story of the past few seasons Victor Oladipo suffered a gruesome knee injury in the Pacers' matchup with the Raptors on Wednesday. Team officials later said Oladipo was scheduled to have an MRI on Thursday. In 35 games, he averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.7 steals. The Pacers say an MRI revealed today that Oladipo has a ruptured quadriceps tendon in his knee and he will have to have surgery to fix it.

Oladipo was hurt as he scrambled back to defend an outlet pass to Toronto's Pascal Siakam and crumpled to the floor awkwardly.

Throughout the league, players - including Miami's Hassan Whiteside - have already taken to social media to offer their condolences. "He's huge for us on a nightly basis and we have to be huge for him in this process and make sure we get wins in his name". "Obviously. We'll see what tomorrow shows and go from there", Oladipo said in statement released through the team.

"That kid has a lovely spirit about him", said head coach Nate McMillan. They now sit behind only the Raptors, a team they beat on Wednesday, and the Bucks in the standings. The Pacers sit in third place in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 32-15. "It's emotional, but we have to overcome it and play".

Young had totaled 15 points and 12 rebounds over the previous two games before this eruption.

"I haven't talked to the trainers about it, but he wasn't complaining before last night", McMillan said, acknowledging Oladipo remained upbeat Thursday. "But we want to keep fighting for him".

Pacers: Visits Memphis on Saturday, seeking their fourth straight win over the Grizzlies.
