Barcelona to meet Real Madrid in Copa del Rey semi-finals

Real Madrid's Karim Benzema scored twice to help the European champions secure a 3-1 victory over Girona on Thursday as they progressed to the Copa del Rey semifinals 7-3 on aggregate.

The first leg will be on Wednesday in Barcelona, with the return match in Madrid on February 27, just before their Spanish league game at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on March 3.

With his club having set an unprecedented record of clinching three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles, Real coach Solari shared his thoughts on Guardiola's sentiments.

Barça were in the draw thanks to a 6-1 thrashing of Sevilla after losing the first leg 2-0 at the Sanchez-Pizjuan.

"If we play Madrid in the semifinals, it's welcome and if we meet in the final, in case we both go through, it will be seen, but I do not care".

"There's nothing like it", said Real Madrid director Emilio Butragueno.

Two-time cup winners Real Betis will host Valencia in the opening leg of the other semifinal with the second game played on February 27 at the Mestalla stadium. It's thrilling and more so, if you have the fortune to play for a final.

Madrid, who trail leaders Barcelona by 10 points in La Liga, have not won the Copa since the 2013-14 campaign. We are talking about two teams that have a lot of resources and extraordinary players.

Arthur has played 15 league games (838 minutes) in LaLiga this season, and not one of the important fixtures has been lost.

"Real Madrid is the best team of the last century and therefore the best team in history".

The final will be played at Betis' Benito Villamarin stadium in Seville on May 25.
