Jussie Smollett’s Privacy Was Violated By Hospital Workers Following Alleged Attack

He said an internal investigation had begun as part of standard procedure for allegations of information leaks. Police initially investigated the case as a possible hate crime.

The Chicago Police have opened an internal investigation into the Jussie Smollett case.

Smollett has maintained that he is a victim and has denied all the allegations that he staged the incident.

Police and prosecutors now say Smollett paid brothers Abel and Ola Osundairo to stage the attack as part of a plan to raise Smollett's public profile and increase his salary on the Fox TV drama.

"I will also add that there were several agencies briefed with information during that time and some of the information that went out was not factually accurate", Guglielmi told ABC News on Thursday evening. The influx of information that leaked to the media relating to Jussie Smollett's case has prompted officials to look into where their "vulnerabilities" lie.

During the investigation, numerous pieces of information made their way into the media, and it's these leaks that have prompted the Chicago P.D.'s new investigation.

It comes as dozens of nurses claim they were fired for looking at Smollett's medical records after he was treated in the emergency room at Northwestern Memorial Hospital on January 29. Nevertheless, she said, the hospital didn't want to hear her side of the story, and she thinks the same thing happened to other employees who were recently terminated.

Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson held a press conference on February 21 calling Smollett's conduct "despicable". The actor said the men yelled racial slurs at him and threatened his life while pouring an unknown substance on him. The actor was released after posting 10 percent of his $100,000 bond. The brothers also reportedly told the Grand Jury they were paid for the gym sessions - NOT for the "attack".

Jussie is set to return to. court on March 14th to face felony charges of disorderly conduct for claiming he was attacked on January 29th. Smollett has since been charged with "staging" the attack.
