Earlier on March 7, the Election Commission of India (ECI) said that the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 schedule is likely to be announced "any day", PTI reported.
Announcing the seven-phase elections schedule across India, Chief Election Commissioner said that the Commission has been visiting the state and has been interacting with the political parties, the state administration and the Ministry of Home Affairs. Almost 90 crore voters would be eligible to vote for 543 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country.
Polling in Karnataka will be held on April 18 for 14 constituencies and for the remaining 14 will be on April 23.
The 2019 General Election will be held in 7 phases and it will be held from April 11 to May 19. The announcement over the dates for general election "could happen over the weekend or at most by Tuesday", a senior functionary of the poll body told the news agency.
As soon as the elections, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make his bid to return to power amid hectic parleys by several political parties to put a united fight against the ruling BJP, are announced, the model code of conduct will come into force.
"We hope that the polling will be held in a free and fair manner and the EC will be impartial, proactive and responsive", he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
While the first phase polls to Assembly and Lok Sabha seats in constituencies of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Berhampur and Koraput will be held on April 11, the second phase elections will be held in Bargarh, Sundergarh, Bolangir, Kandhamal and Aska constituencies on April 18.
With the model code of conduct for elections coming into immediate effect, the government can not announce any policy move that may impact voters' decision.
"In light of the failure to conduct assembly elections on time in J&K I'm retweeting my tweets from a few days ago". The five-phase polls began on April 16 and ended on May 13. The last date for scrutiny of nomination is March 27 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is March 29.
"Transfer of any poll-related officials will not be entertained without the permission of the Election Commission".
